The Modified Colon Preparation Method for Better Double Contrast

Abstract
|
|
|
Many preparation methods have been tried to get a good quality film of the double contrast colon study since Fischer first applied to the colon in 1923. Nowadays several colon cleansing preparations containing some pharmaceuticals are commercially available.
Authors tried new preparation plan on dietary base alone with some laxatives previously used.
The new preparation method is:
The prior day of the examination;
Breakfast and lunch; soft diet
Dinner; liquid diet such as water, coke, and coffee except milk and nectar At 9 P.M.: 15 gm MgSO, with water
At 11 P.M.: Dulcolax 2 tablets
The examination day;
Till 6 A.M.: liquid diet as yesterday dinner
After 6 A.M.: NPO
Double contrast studies before and after the introduction of new preparation method were compared. Each of them consisted of 100 patients. Mucosal coating became excellent and residual fecal materials in colon decreased remarkably. Quality of double contrast colon study was satisfactory with new preparation method.
